Indian Cuisine Masala Vadei

I get the recipe from my colleagues. Thank You Aminah for your mother’s recipe. Delicious and savory for evening break.Ingredients:

200 gram bean dhall (I used Australian Dhall, my friend suggests to used Indian Dhall for a better taste)
a bit of dried chillies (cut it into small bits)
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 teaspoon of sweet cumin
1 teaspoon of bique sawi
1 large onion (dice it)
Curry leaves

1. Soak the bean dhall for a night
2. After the bean has soften, blend the bean dhall. (blend it not too fine, let a few dhall chunk left)
3. Add cumin, sweet cumin, bique sawi, onion and curry leaves together into the bean dhall. Stir them well.
4. Now we are ready to fry it. It is recommended to swap vegetable oil on your palm before you start making balls from the mixture. Using your hands, roll the mixture into balls (small balls) and immediately into the frying pan for dip fried.
5. Serve it hot!…

Cashew Chicken

It’s coming to the beginning of 2014. Very much excited and occupied during this early of years. Not only to set my personal resolution, but also by eldest is attending pre-school for the first time. I am overwhelm seeing him wearing his uniform (yes , its normal in malaysia for a pre-school to have uniform :)) , eat his breakfast , and sit in his class doing some coloring. For me this is the moment that I would not miss for the world. I guess this is the only time that he will be 5 and soon without realizing it, he will getting married somewhere in the future…huhuhu break my heart everytime I think about it. But it’s life I guess, so try to enjoy all those cuddle moment as much as possible.

For personal resolution, there’s a lot on my list . I have met at least 5o% of my lasy year list I guess. I find it quite good to write it out somewhere and flip it thru once in a while as you go along. Get me focus and better planning. I am not only write about the things that I would like to achieve but also financially and my kids development; and the fun parts also what I want to purchased this year. Having list or resolution is fun and get myself something to look forward each month. I really…really hope this year I can sustain writing this blog; seriously I love to cook and write about it ….but the hardest part is having time to have it all..:)

Okay, less on talking about me, let us talk about the cashew and the chicken. It is very fast to make my dear and delicious I may say. I had taste it before during a buffet lunch at a 5 star-hotel. After that I try to searched the recipe and found it in  ( 1 day 1 recipe by Chef Hanieliza).

600 gm of chicken breast (slice it to small pieces)

1 spoon corn flour

1 tea spoon of salt


100 gm of cashew nuts (fry without oil)

3 dry chillies (cut to small pieces)

2 holland onion (dice it)

4 cloves of garlic (slice it)

1 capsicum

3 spoon of oyster sauce

2 spoon of tomato sauce

1/4 cup of water

2 spoon of oil


1. mix the chicken with corn flour and salt thouroughly. Then fried it till the chicken cook. But don’t over cook the chicken cause it will become dry.

2. Then fry the dry chilles for like 10 second and set it aside.

3. After you have taken out the dry chillies, use the same leftover oil in the pan to stir-fry the ginger, garlic and onion until the aroma come out.Then add the capsicum. ( I used fresh chillies to replace the capsicum in the recipe just because I can’t find one.)

4. Then add the chicken, oyster sauce, tomato sauce and water.

5. Let it dry a bit and add the cashew nuts .

6. serve it warm with steam white rice. Enjoy!


How to throw a Party like a Gen Y? (Ladies Engagement)

Recently, I am being busy with holding the best Ladies Engagement for my company for the end of 2013. It’s challenging as most of us are in holiday mood and not very fond of having an extra chores to set up an event. But as we already being selected (our technical department) to hold the next event, we would like to throw the best one for the ladies here. I am always keen to be the party planner; I don’t know why but I guess I like to sometime be in touch with my feminine side after a year surrounded with bolt and nuts. 🙂

It is a simple event, 2 hours event, but the preparation took a month before to get the best result. We chose candy wonderland as a theme. Theme is crutial for this type of event, not only to get people excited to come but also we excited to hold one. Previous event doesn’t have a cheeky theme, more serious one I guess. For e.g. Networking towards success, climbing the corporate ladded those sort of things, but definitely candy wonderland suit our objective to get the girls loose a bit from work.

The food…mmm…we ordered Chicken Rice, Chocolate Moist Cake, Black Forest Cake, and Caramel Rainbow Cake. Rice is a must for ours as it is lunch time and the cake would give a connection with the theme. Then we have the most important part, the candy booth. It is not only a candy booth but also a photo booth. It’s a gen y thing I guess , photo booth with the photo props ; it makes the difference. The ladies really happy and excited about it. Really hard to take them away from the photo booth before the event start. The photo props was easy, just get the printables online. I got mine at

Door gift is a bit tricky , we are given only RM1500 for the whole budget. It’s not much but we would really want to give a practical and meaningful door gift. RM 10 per person…what can I get for that? The idea struck me when I purchased The Malaysian Women’s Weekly Dec 2013. It got lots of coupon and free 50 ml Body Shop butter. WOW! It will be the best doorgift for ladies that want all. But then it is not possible to get 90 pcs of the magazine as it is very limited. So I contacted the Blu Inc company itself, but still the main head quarters also don’t have it. But instead Blu Inc gave us a complimentary Nov issue. Hooray!

Then another opportunity came, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale. So we end up purchasing fiction book as the door gift. I always love to read and no matter how busy we are , we as ladies need to read to get our brain stimulate and up to date. The book was really cheap. With RM8 you can purchase a hard cover book.

The event end with a lot of compliment from the participant. I feel proud from the bottom of my heart, not because of the compliments but because I had done the best. No matter what you do either is baking a cake, designing a plant, or cleaning your toddlers mess , it will always leave a good feeling when you have done the best.

Picky Eater

Instant noodle and pasta is his favorite as well as chocolate, biscuits and sweets. He will stare first at the food, try to make sense of the presentation (like a mastercheff judge) before he would like to open his mouth to be fed. He prefer to only eats his chicken dish without his rice. I have to force him sometime to eat his carbo. Well that is my eldest son who is 4 years old right now. I like to cook but sometime cooking 3 different dishes for lunch (one after another as he refuse to eat) quite tiring.

So recently I find something that really help me to get him  eat bread. I purchase this bear shaped bread mold online at for the price of RM 10 (USD 3). My son really excited everytime he saw me carrying a stack of bread. He will bug me to make a bear bread (roti bear). You just stack 2 bread together and pressed the mold on top of it; It is easy to make and cleaned. Look cute dohh!

Mama Carey and Me….

Wooshh… it has been quite a while I haven’t be able to get myself to start  blogging. I guess after deliver my second child, every regular…comfort…work-life balance just go to drain…but as I go along…especially extra hand from Mr. Husband…things get balance pretty quick. But certainly it is a bless having another boy to our small family.

Cooking is quite hard for me right now since to juggle 2 demanding boys right now but certainly the passion just dont go away.. : ). It is still in Hari Raya mode and I had been able to bake mama carey cookies last weekend. It really took me about 1/2 a day to finish it as I took so many pitstop during the baking session…-to change diapers, make milk, bath my kids and the list continud on…

Ok, here is the recipe-


A- for the base

250 gm butter

300 gm wheat flour

Half me certainly..

Half eaten…by me certainly..

100 gm icing sugar

150 gm corn flour

1 tbs vanilla essence

For the topping;

250 gm icing sugar

2 white eggs

1 sp of corn flour

a bit of cocoa powder

How to make it-

1. Mix butter+icing sugar using cake mixer until creamy. Then add vanilla.

2. Then add the flour bit by bit until it it become doh where it is ready enough to be cookies pressed. Role the doh to about 1 cm thick and then use a cookies cutter to cut it. The original version is using heart shape but I just used whatever available. (as I always misplaced item…huhuhuhu)..

3. Ready with the topping, using a cake mixer, beat the white eggs with the icing sugar until you get a creamy mixture, then add the corn flour to thick it up. It is quite a thick mixture.

4. Then for the decoration, take around 2 spoon from the topping and mix it with cocoa until you get dark color.

5. As everything ready, place the topping onto the base using your finger (as it is easier to spread it). Then get a tooth pick,dip it into the dark color topping , and then give a few stroke on top of the white topping as a decoration. Then bake it at about 10-20 minutes at 150 deg C.

6. Caution: you need to immediately put the cookies in oven after you have put the topping on the base. If not it will just flow over from the base.

Crunchy Cornflakes Cookies

Last week, a good colleague of mine gave me a total set of aquarium of his. He handed it over to me as he finds I will be more dedicated to take care of the fishes. I hope so…huhuhu…He gave the complete set with submersible pump, lighting, anti-chlorine solution, the food, and 5 cute tetra-neon fishes. What a day! My son is so excited about it to the extent he plays his toys with the fishes. He always helps me feed the fish but until now he is too afraid to touch the fish even just by touching the glass. My husband and me always talking about having an aquarium in our house but just don’t have the gut to take that extra commitment. But since it is just a small aquarium and tetra-neon fishes are easy to maintain and care, I guess this is a good opportunity for us to see whether we are up to it.
I want to do something good for him in return so I decide to bake cookies for him. At first it is a gift for Chinese New Year cookies but instead I just made it now as during that time I might be too pregnant (36 weeks). It is very easy, crunchy, and healthy. This recipe is from Asmah Laili ‘s cookbook. Base on the feedback, it is really …really delicious.

250 g butter
270 g caster sugar
160 g self-raised flour
200 g oat
120g g diced almonds
120 g cornflakes (hand-crushed)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

1. Beat the butter, caster sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Eggs are added one by one while beating the batter. After that add the cornflakes, almonds, and oat. You can do this without using the mixer.
2. Add the flour bit by bit.
3. Shape the dough into small ball and place it on to the baking pan. Bake it at 160 deg C for about 15-20 minutes.
